Package Design
The final project in my text design course in the Creative Technology and Design program at CU Boulder

The goal of this project was to create a professional, polished piece of food packaging that echoed our core values and personality. I chose fruit snacks, as they embody the sense of fun and spontaneity I strive for in my life and work

The process started out with mood boarding, in which we decided what aesthetic direction we wanted to take the packaging in, as well as what kind of packaging itself (form factor) would be used. I wanted to take the packaging in a direction similar to that of Byte Bars. I think that balance between modern colors and bold imaging with a more retro sensibility is super interesting, especially for a product like fruit snacks. Then, I thought about some outside inspirations for the design and aesthetic, and found some influence in the style of comic book sound effects. The pop of their style would really help make the packaging more dynamic, like fruit snacks should be!

From the brainstorming stage I tested out designs and die-cut templates, and settled on the box design above. Once the template was chose I made the final box design on top of it, as well as two different snack package designs to go along with it. As I had done so much brainstorming and pre-planning, this stage went by fast as it was mostly just executing my existing ideas.
With the final design complete, the last step was to apply it to a 3D model and render (using Fusion 360). This was where most of the issues with the project were encountered, as the most suitable box in fusion 360 still didn't completely match the proportions set in the die-cut template. However, with some minor adjustments and scaling I was able to make a relatively pleasing final render. The colors really pop on a 3D shape, and the typeface is bold and eye-grabbing while still remaining legible from a distance. Most importantly of all, it is very me.
